Rank your Ridden B&M Inverts

#1 Black Mamba - Phantasialand
#2 Nemesis Reborn - Alton Towers
#3 OzIris - Parc Asterix
#4 Shadows of Arkham - Parque Warner Madrid
#5 Monster - Walygator Grand Est

I guess I'll redo it now that I've doubled the amount of Inverts I've ridden. I'll also put their overall current Rank with them(the number after the name)

1. Montu #11
2. Afterburn #31
3. Talon #32
4. Flight Deck CGA #39
5. Silver Bullet KBF #48
6. Batman: The Ride SFMM #49
7. Great Bear #50
8. Great White #53
9. Goliath SFFT #55

Jesus, been ages since I updated this list, new in Bold, re rides in Italics;

1 - Katun - Ermagherd, absolutely loved my back row ride on this one, so intense, just how I like them.

2 - Montu - Full of force, with a wonderful layout and the Batwing, back row Batwing is amazing.

3 - Oz Iris - I really enjoyed this. It has lots of grace, airtime and some excellent inversions. Also a big fan of the theming.

4 - Nemesis - Not much to say, except I haven't ridden the new version yet. Loved the OG.

5 - Afterburn - Re-rode this year and it was even better, Batwing is the highlight obviously.

6 - Talon - Solid invert, best ride in the park, with some force and a bit of airtime. Another re ride this year, it's super good, up she goes.

7 - Alpengeist - A tale of two halves; 1st half, absolutely amazing. 2nd half, boring. Front row was better for the 2nd half but nowhere near as intense in the first half. Back row was super intense and I loved it, then I hated it once it did nothing after the mcbr.

8 - Black Mamba - More of a floaty invert rather than intense, much preferred the front of this than the back.

9 - Monster (Grona Lund) - Lovely views, good first drop and a few near misses, the tree on the left especially, also has a good airtime hump near the end. Good quality invert.

10 - Banshee - First ride was horrible, down the bottom of my list, but got a couple of great rides at the front later on. Won't ride in the back though, just constant positives isn't nice.

11 - Raptor - Yes there's a couple of dead spots but the final helix is fab, it has a great first half and it makes a gorgeous sound!

12 - Patriot - Very similar to Talon, best part was the airtime hill and a good drop, the Zero G was also good, but the rest was a bit meh.

13 - Batman (SFGAM) - My fave of the Batmans, better theming, atmosphere and I've ridden it backwards too.

14 - Batman (SFGAdv) - Good rides, very forceful at the back, don't mind a quick spin on these, but can't do more than 3 in a row.

15 - Shadows of Arkham - Parque Warner - Rides exactly the same as the others

16 - Batman (SFStl) - Good rides, very forceful at the back, don't mind a quick spin on these, but can't do more than 3 in a row.

17 - Nemesis Inferno - Poor compared to the others, lacks force and snap. Though I'm sure I'm biased because the OG was so good.

18 - Dragon Challenge (Fireball) - Quite liked the red side, but it's near the bottom of the list compared to the others.

19 - Great Bear - Not a fan really, the loop and Immelmann are good but that's all. Nice views of Skyrush tho. Re rode this and it's not gotten any better

20 - Dragon Challenge (Horntail) - Had a great Zero G but that was all I liked about it, felt like the drop was totally wasted, lots of dead spots of straight track or long turns, hence bottom.

I get to add some new ones!

1. Montu - BGT - they just don't build them like they used to.
2. Alpengeist - Busch Gardens Williamsburg - da fuq did I just ride? The placement, the theming, the MASSIVE expense of inversions across the first half are some of the most on-point roller coaster-ing out there. Stuff tamed down after the second half (advantage to Banshee for not having MCBR), but absolutely loved the g-force, speed, and especially night ride.
3. Banshee - Kings Island - it's an original design with so much g-force. My only qualm is not very re-ride-able, but by far one of the better B&Ms of recent history.
4. Afterburn - Carowinds - Man, they don't make them like this any more! Smaller, but lots of tight, small inversions.
5. Raptor - Cedar Point - Come at me; this is one of the best ideas Cedar Point ever had. It still remains a forceful ride 24 27 years later; a lesser second half compared to today's standards is easily forgivable. It still has one of the best zero-g rolls and cobra rolls out there.
6. Great Bear - Hersheypark - And you said Raptor has a dwindling second half? This ride is very underrated for it's quirky layout - I still really enjoyed its flow of inversions!
7. Patriot - Worlds of Fun - It's a perfectly fun ride, but like Talon, doesn't offer an edge over other inverts.
8. Talon - Dorney Park - Great ride, very standard.
9. Batman the Ride - Six Flags Magic Mountain - It's blue.
10. Batman the Ride - Six Flags St. Louis - not blue.
11. Batman the Ride - Six Flags Great Adventure - yellow!
12. Batman the Ride - Six Flags Great America - the original!

13. Batman the Ride - Six Flags Over Georgia - blue again.
14. Batman the Ride - Six Flags Over Texas - yellow!
15. Chinese Fireball - Islands of Adventure - Better than the other half, but still feels like half a ride.
16. Hungarian Horntail - Islands of Adventure - Just felt... slow.
17. Silver Bullet - Knott’s Berry Farm - Honestly quite fun to ride, albeit more tame than other inverts.
18. Phoenix Rising - Well yes it's going to be last in this ranking, but first in our hearts <3

This is getting quite tricky now, over the last 30 years I've been on 23 of these bloomin' things, by far my most ridden coaster model. Some of them I've only ridden once, some of them I rode over 20 years ago, so putting them all into some sort of order is quite the task, but I'll give it a shot.

1. Nemesis. It's my number '0' coaster, it's my 'special' coaster and it's probably the reason I'm a goon. It just has to be number 1.
Shamefully, have not ridden Reborn yet.

2. Montu. Awesome.

3. Alpengeist. This has gone way up in my estimations after rerides this year. I can forgive the rather lame ending cos' everything up until the MCBR is spectacular!

4. Banshee. Love it.

5. Raptor. It's the roar! 😲

6. Swedish Monster. Action packed, very creative.

7. Black Mamba. Theming!

8. Afterburn. New this year. Very good indeed, great layout.

9. Talon. Also new this year, another good one. Big enough to have the speed and power, but small enough to not require an MCBR.

10. Patriot. Airtime hill! 😁

11. French Monster. Raptor with no MCBR, yay, but in a sh*t location, boo.

I'm going to cheat and group all the Batman clones together as there's really not much between them. I've been on 5 of 'em (GAdv, GAm, MM, St Louis and Parque Warner). So that's 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16.

17 & 18. The Duelling Dragons. Again, ranking them together as I feel like both rides came as a package. I was lucky enough to be able to marathon these when they duelled properly, which was awesome, but individually they were much less impressive.

19. Great Bear. Looks good, Interesting layout, but a forceless finale.

20. Nemesis Inferno. I mean, just cos it's in 20th place, doesn't mean I don't like it. Still a good ride.

21. Oz'iris. S'alright.

22. Silver Bullet. Rode it once about 15 years ago, can't remember much about it tbh.

23. Flight Deck. Surprisingly punchy, but it's such a short ride.

1. Katun, Mirabilandia
2. Nemesis, Alton Towers
3. Monster, Gröna Lund
4. Black Mamba, Phantasialand
5. Batman The Ride, SFMM
6. Nemesis Inferno, Thorpe Park
7. Shadows of Arkham, Parque Warner Madrid

Also overdue for an update here.

1. Nemesis - It's the second best B&M I've ever done with some of my favorite inversions on any ride. Thought it was perfect at the time, but it's been eleven years so it's due for a revisit, but I don't know when that's happening. A bit worried it's going to drop whenever that reride occurs.

2. Black Mamba - Not as whippy as some of the other ones that score high, but the setting makes it. The focus on helices and trenches are also exhilarating.

3. Silver Bullet - Excellent layout with surprisingly great pacing and some killer forces.

4. Flight Deck - Textbook example of the older and smaller B&Ms being among the best. It's short, but nearly every single element hits hard.

5. Batman: The Ride (SFOG) - By far the best Batman clone. Very intense while still smooth.

6. Afterburn - Some great intensity and snappy moments.

7. Montu - Used to be #2 but fell a bit on a subsequent visit. Zero g roll and batwing are still killer, but the rest wasn't hitting as much as it used to.

8. Chinese Fireball - Definitely superior layout to Horntail. Some snappy immelmanns, sweet corkscrews, and a nice floater hill. Was awesome when they dueled, but I still thought they were great on their own. Not really sad to see them go though, I've had plenty of rides on them.

9. Great White - Treats you right. Fantastic Batman clone.

10. Talon - Nice big swooping inversions in the first half followed by more powerful moments in the second half. Great landscaping interaction too, especially given the park it's in.

11. Monster - Location, design, and interaction are excellent. Lacks intensity for the most part, but it has the best first drop on an invert.

12. Batman: The Ride (SFGAm) - Still kicks ass after 30 years. Just not as smooth as the two that rank higher.

13. Batman: The Ride (SFOT) - It seems to have a regard of being one of the lesser Batman clones, but this was surprisingly great.

14. Nemesis Inferno - Not the sexiest, but what's not to like? It's a simple layout, doesn't waste any time, gets right to the good stuff, and has great landscaping.

15. Alpengeist - Great sense of speed, ridiculous foot choppers, and the best cobra roll. The rest of the inversions don't quite hit, and the MCBR is a buzzkill.

16. Hungarian Horntail - The beginning overbank turn was dull and the cobra roll was okay, but it had an excellent zero g roll. Doesn't benefit from being defunct, as it'll continue to drop.

17. Batman: The Ride (SFGAd) - It's been 8 years and I only got one ride, so I should probably just give it another chance.

18. Great Bear - Was actually quite fun the last time I rode it. It has some weird moments but the inversions are pretty good.

19. Batman: The Ride (SFMM) - Has the usual intensity, but it's one of the rattlier ones.

20. Raptor - Good ride. The elements aren't as remarkable as other rides, and the middle portion of the layout isn't really exciting. Not the smoothest one out there but it could be a lot worse.

21. Banshee - Definitely the worst. Sure it's intense, but only in the valleys and it rattles in all of them. Inversions are also too big and drawn out to be any interesting.

It's great to have experienced so many of these and see how great most of them really are. Banshee is still the only one I don't think is good, but honestly from about 16 and up, they're all great. Such a consistent ride model.

6 new inverts to rank since my last list and there’s enough data here to start recognising some trends.

First and most notable – I hate the Batman clones. Having done four of them now, I can comfortably say I dread these rides every time I see one. They remind me of Lech Coaster in that they consistently make me feel like absolute sh*te after every ride. It’s almost at the point I’d rather ride an SLC… almost

The thing that links these coasters with Afterburn, Banshee & Montu at the bottom of my list is that they are all oppressively positive heavy, with very little respite. I appreciate a variety of forces in a ride and consistent positives always put me off. Montu is the least offensive of these, but it’s still tough to have more than a couple rides on a boiling Florida day.

Things take a significantly positive (how ironic) turn once we get into the top 11. Whilst all these coasters do have heavy positive moments, there are enough moments of sweet whip or lovely zero G to make them reridable. The better those elements combine, the higher they rank, especially if there is a heavy dash of near miss elements thrown in.

Maybe it says more about how my tolerance has changed over the years (especially considering Montu was at number 2 only a couple of years ago); but I'll quite happily lap the top 7 over and over, after that, I find B&M inverts a bit much.
