Alton towers have permanently closed the skyride I am very confused as they just refurbished it I am kind of thinking it may be an April fools prank as this is very shocking! I don’t know if any of you know any more I can’t really find much information on it.🤯
 
Ugh, I normally love WOF but I hate everything they are doing right now 😅

Couldn't they have achieved rain protection without *completely* enclosing the lift? At least leave it open to the inside so you can actually see you're going up a spiral. What's the point of a spiral lift if it's enclosed like this? Visually for riders, now it's just a long (noisy) monotonous curve to the left.
 
Hofis Erlebnispark, a new amusement park inspired by Karls Erlebnis Dorf, is expected to open next year at the former site of Western-City Dasing near Augsburg, Germany (my hometown). The future operator, Thomas Hofreiter, plans for 30 attractions, including three family coasters, an observation tower, a zoo, and a labyrinth/maze. The park is right off the A-8 Autobahn, 30 minutes northwest of Munich, so easy creds to get when at the Oktoberfest or Skyline Park (45 minute drive). Source (in German)

PortAventura workers are going on strike starting tomorrow after negotiations on a new employment deal continues to stall since the last contract expired on December 31st. According to the worker’s union a whole 65% of PortAventura’s workforce earn minimum wage or less due to seasonal contracts allowing the park to get away with lower wages, and issues with management and employee transportation remain. PortAventura has cancelled ticket sales for tomorrow but plans to remain operational, however cautioning visitors that they may face difficulties buying food or going on rides. The union warns that the strike may proceed past Saturday if negotations continue to stall.

Despite the strike this past Easter (which saw at least 500 workers participating and had the support of over 80% of the resort’s workforce according to the union), the disputes continue. PortAventura has now indefinitely postponed their 30th anniversary event, previously scheduled on April 28th, in light of the strikes, and further walkouts are scheduled for May 1st and 2nd. The union plans to continue these strikes until an acceptable deal can be hashed out.

Särkänniemi will open the first ZIERER Drifter flat ride named 'Drifti' this May 2025.

A rally-themed ride, sponsored by Tampere-based insurance company Turva.

"Drifti offers an exhilarating driving experience for thrill-seekers of all ages. The ride features nine two-seater cars, divided into three different teams, adding a competitive element for daredevils. True to its name, the Drifti ride lets you drift – for real! Each car-shaped vehicle is equipped with a handbrake-style control lever, allowing riders to influence their driving experience. Drifting is made possible by Turva, which acts as a partner for the new ride. Drifti will open in May in front of Näsinneula. Since it is located outside the amusement park, you can hop on with just a single-ride ticket!"

Is this the same model as Chessington is adding next year as part of their Paw Patrol area?
 
Interesting. Realistically I doubt the height or speed record would be a target, unless it's records for a particular class of coaster - e.g. wing or flying. So what else does that leave that would fit FWA?

steepest? most inversions? Fastest multi-launch? most launches?

The May Day strike has now been called off after a last-minute deal has been reached between management and the union. The new deal is set to improve wages, workload regulation, and recognition of employee seniority, among other benefits. A collective agreement for the resort’s 4,500 workers is still being negotiated.
