Rides at Buffalo Bill's Casino closed until further notice

@Hyde @Hixee @Pokemaniac I apologise if I come across overly suspicious, but is this a potential bot again? This first-time poster has bumped a 7 year old thread that was last posted in almost 4 years ago as their first post without really providing any new news as such, their Fave Coaster and Fave Park tabs on their profile are both “Forest”, and this thread does seem to be somewhat of a magnet for bots…

The only thing that puts me off, though, is that the poster’s tone does seem genuine, and I can’t imagine how it could be edited to tie in a to a link to an online casino… what do we think?

If the post is genuine; I sincerely apologise, @WilliamsJessica. The previous bots in this thread and others may have made me overly suspicious.

Nah, it's a bot. This thread is like a pot of honey for them.

Do you think it’s because it has the word “Casino” in the title? As the person who originally created the thread, should I remove the word “Casino” and see if that attracts less bots?

^ the word "casino" in the thread titie is 1,000% the reason why this thread attracts bots.

It's one of those "moths to a flame" words

But now that the thread has been bumped again, as the years continue to slip by, the odds for a miracle here regarding Desperado only seem ever grimmer. Are we already past the point of no return?

I was in Vegas twice, once last November and December. You can see for yourself, but it doesn't appear that they have much intention to bring it back anytime soon. Desperado's entrance is blocked off and all signage removed. And while some caught water in the log flume around September or so, there was nothing in either of my Nov/Dec visits.

In fact, the day I visited in Dec was the last day of Whiskey Pete's. I didn't go in there, but I did stop by Primm Valley, and it was not great. I feel they closed the wrong stateline resort.

That's exactly why, and why we should keep it as it is. This honey pot keeps catching flies that would otherwise have bothered us elsewhere.

Saw this on reddit;

From the article;

Amusement rides are likely lost forever

Buffalo Bill’s was once home to the Desparado roller coaster, a log flume, Frog Hopper, and a drop tower. By 2018, the rides were only open occasionally and closed permanently in 2019.

The drop tower was dismantled and acquired by the Lost Island Theme Park in Waterloo, Iowa. A similar ride called the Big Shot sits atop The Strat in Las Vegas.

The Frog Hopper sat idle for several years before disappearing. The log flume and roller coaster are still intact on the property. However, neither has operated in six years.

And apparently, so far, they do plan on keeping Primm Valley open... which is really a choice.

If you check out how it looked when I visited in December (go two posts back in this thread), it was the most depressing. But it's also the smallest one (in terms of casino floor space), so from the business point of view, it's probably the easiest one to keep open.

Given how "middle of nowhere" Primm is, I could see the resort and Desperado just slowly baking away in the desert sun for decades to come. This isn't like a SFA or CGA situation where the underlying land has significant value for reuse.

Definitely a bummer, and felt a long time coming. The year I lived out in California, drove by Buffalo Bill's ~7 times and never got a ride, as it was always closed for maintenance, "opening later that day", or just downright unattended. Obviously not a priority for the casino, along with the rest of the amusement attractions, for some time.

Never really realised at the time (2013) I was bagging what would end up being a relatively elusive cred. Lucky me!

The crazy thing, looking back, is that it really wasn't all that hard to get a ride for the first few years it opened. It ran pretty consistently for a number of years, and that's when I got most of my rides in. It was a great ride initially, very Magnum-esque, but with that sweeping turn that I loved. But once the intermittent closures started to happen, that's when it became quite elusive (and rough). I think I rode it one more time in that phase, and even then, it was a number of years ago. It was definitely past it's glory days.

I also never got to ride the log flume... sort of regret that. I heard it was pretty dull, but if nothing else, it looked semi-lengthy, and went both in and out of the casino (which I didn't even realize for years).

Also, wasn't it one of the very first locations (if not the first) for an S&S Double Shot Tower?

I thought that was the Stratosphere?

I’m not saying Buffalo Bill’s didn’t have one, but I always thought the Stratosphere had the first S&S shot tower.
