Hansa Park | "New and very big" attraction | 2025(?)

Over the past few months, Hansa Park has been doing work in the entrance area, with the major development being the demolition of the old arcade at the south end of the park's "main street". This has left a pretty large space for future development:

This past Monday, the park finally confirmed in its monthly newsletter that something "new and very big" will be built in the coming years. This is followed by a puzzle competition on the park's website for people to figure out where the real-world building(s) that'll inspire the new attraction is located:

Apparently, the park unintentionally made it easy for people to solve the puzzle because all the featured images were available online beforehand. Based on what's been accumulated (source), the location appears to be in
Braga, Portugal

As for what'll actually be built, no solid rumor has appeared yet. Given the early teasing and previous park investments, the potential for another ride on the scale of Kärnan and Flucht von Novgorod is definitely there.

This post is my own speculation, but for a sense of scale, this is the construction site at the moment:

Doing some rough measurements on Google Maps, the area is roughly the size of the main building for Kärnan (about 2600 square meters). The question then is whether construction will move further into the area where the Holstein-Turm (Huss gyro tower) currently stands. Holstein-Turm has been standing but not operating since 2021, allegedly due to a parts dispute between Hansa and either Huss or one of their subcontractors. The future of the tower is currently unknown, but if the park were to remove it or incorporate it into whatever they're currently building, the size of the new area would expand greatly, up to 7200 square meters, about the area taken up by Flucht von Novgorod as a whole. If they also were to remove the sea lion show/exhibit at the south end, there'd be up to 9500 square meters to work with.

As for what could be built, the park's biggest gap is a large indoor ride. The proximity to residential areas to the south would encourage whatever they're building to be indoors, and given the park is also long overdue for another thrill ride, could we be looking at an indoor coaster of some kind, likely by Gerstlauer?

It’s been at the top of the tower since it shut. That’s the cabin’s ”idle” position during winter maintenance, and it’s only lowered when it’s in use (or when they have to work on the cabin itself) since otherwise it would block access to the motors beneath the loading platform. Even when it’s operating they leave it at half-mast overnight.

It’s official: Holstein-Turm will NOT return. The park confirmed in their monthly newsletter that due to them not being able to operate the attraction reliably anymore, the iconic tower will be dismantled at the end of the 2024 season. As to what will replace it is unknown.

Meanwhile, the 2025(?) construction site is starting to take on a recognizable shape. Concrete walls are also going in at the bottom.

The last newsletter has caused some outrage in the German rollercoaster community. The park has ended their halloween events and stated the following , roughly translated : "(...) we see that more institutions - from theme parks to touristic establishments and mazes - are connected to the creepy, the horror and Halloween - and even demons - and carry those into the lives of the visitors. Parallel to this development events happen worldwide that we cannot influence and that scare us. This is why we have decided to focus (...) on those who want to experience exciting but also carefree moments at Hansapark."

While this statement is rather cryptic, people argue that the mazes and scary parts were separated from the rest of the park, so that only those who wanted to experience them were confronted with them. A new focus on the German version of "Thanksgiving" makes some think that the park has started to be influenced by religious beliefs of the owners, as does the statement above. Being more secular, this would be rather unusual for Germany. Another clue might be the former rebranding of the "Grudge of Novgorod" to the "Escape from Novgorod," some say.

Honestly, if they got rid of the corn maze and reutilized the plot of land next to Kärnan for something year-round instead I wouldn’t be against it. For most of the year it’s this huge empty space that just awkwardly sits there, sometimes with random junk scattered about. Would even allow them to complete a loop of path around Kärnan so that Awilda and Störtebeker aren’t stuck in a dead-end corner.

Could still be partially indoor and outdoors, the construction site reminds me a bit of the Uncharted construction site. On the other hand markers and/or footers for outdoor parts would perhaps have been spotted by now.
