Kennywood Amusement Park Announces
Launch Roller Coaster as New Ride for 2010!

West Mifflin, PA – Kennywood is proud to announce the addition of a
seventh roller coaster for the 2010 season! Joining the ranks of the Lil’ Phantom, Exterminator, Jack Rabbit, Racer, Thunderbolt, and Phantom’s Revenge, the new Linear Synchronous Motor (LSM) launch roller coaster, designed and built by Premier Rides in Maryland, is unlike any other roller coaster at Kennywood.

“This roller coaster will provide a thrilling new experience for coaster lovers at Kennywood,” explains General Manager Jerome Gibas. “The use of LSM launch technology will allow riders to blast from 0 to 50mph in three seconds and offers our first roller coaster with inversions since the Steel Phantom.”

Kennywood’s new launch coaster will feature many exciting and unique features including three inversions and a 0-50mph launch in three seconds! After the high-speed launch, riders will experience a vertical ascent to 95ft before a brief cliffhanger pause at the top and a 90-degree drop into a maximum G-force pullout. The riders then enjoy extended airtime as the train races into an inverted top hat element, passes into a barrel roll and goes vertical again through a twist up leading to another pause.

Riders experience a second vertical free fall followed by another maximum G-force pullout on the way into a highly banked fan curve. After a traditional corkscrew, a curve to a zero gravity hill, and a series of wave turns, riders finally return to the station.

The new roller coaster will be placed in the current location of the Turnpike, a ride that has been at
Kennywood since 1966. Guests will only have to say ‘see you later’ to the Turnpike since plans are
already underway to bring back the ride in the near future.

The project is expected to be complete in May of 2010. Official coaster name and logo information
will be released in the coming weeks. Click Here for a preview video and updates.

Track Length: 2100 feet
Maximum Speed: 50 mph

Interesting addition to the park should give some thrill seeking back into the park, as the GP love to see inversions.
Good also they are removing a ride and putting it elsewhere.

Well, it's hard to say much about it yet. The description isn't very detailed and you can't really see anything in the video. Still, Kennywood hasn't built a new coaster in a while, so the announcement is exciting. But 0 to 50 mph in three seconds...

No way! It actually sounds pretty cool, and I definitely have to get back to Kennywood next year, which I already wanted to, but now I want to more because of this.

Sounds pretty sweet I guess, I'd like to see a layout but I guess we'll have to wait. Inverted top hats are sweet in general though, so it's automatically bomb.

So does this do the circuit twice, once forward and once backwards? I couldn't quite work it out from the video and description - but I was a bit too distracted on the video by the horrible No Limits recreation! An interestingly shaped corkscrew for sure... Maybe it was by the same guy who designed Maverick's inline :p

If some of the other premier rides are any indication.. this might not be amazing.

But, KWood has been dieing for a new coaster.. and here ya go.

Well, I've been on a few Premier rides and they're both in my top twenty five or so, Mr. Freeze being in my top twenty, so they're not really top ten material but they're still really fun coasters.

And yeah I'd say.. After all, by the time this opens it'll be 11 years since they built a new coaster.

That's great.

What's it called?

I'm betting on Delirium, just because they said it in the video and it sounded like a name they might use..

Canadian Slang?

Yes :p .

That's you.. not me. ;)

The transitions always seem to be jerky, inversions never ever ride right for some odd reason.. and the rides just never pack that punch that they should.

Let us hope.

I am obviously either cursed or bring launched coasters to parks the year after I go to them...

2007 - Knott's (Get Pony Express year after)
2008 - Europa Park (Get Blue Fire this year)
2009 - Kennywood (Getting this thing)

I'm just finding it funny now tbh with all these concidences

Onto the actual ride, I liked Kennywood cos all the rides were fun, so hopefully this will continue the trend of re-rideability that the park has...

Haha I know, and I was just saying what I thought about them :p . But, you did say Mr. Freeze pulled some nice G's going backwards.. So you had to have thought it was at least okay :p .

But really, I think it sounds pretty sweet, but that might change after I see the layout because as of right now I have no idea really.

I'm sure this will be a great addition to the park, when I went, it lacked atmosphere and the ride selection was good, but there was definatly a huge gap for a ride like this!

Heresy!

 We are entitled to an opinion now :--D What I mean by "Lacking atmosphere", is basically, there isn't much of a buzz, and there certainly wasn't when I visited, the place was quiet.

But to be honest it was quite a while ago, so i don't really have the right to say that XD

Now I'm never been to Kennywood, but with this new coaster I might make in a place to hit in 2010. With KD having a new coaster there's more coaster being built in these trouble times.
