That Reddit post is misleading - it temporarily closed on Tuesday and reopened later the same day. It's unlikely it closed "since it was so rough".
Some of the transitions are definitely rough though - embarrassingly so for a just-refurbished ride.
The wood supports are just part of the ride in the museum; a normal kiddie coaster would have regular steel supports.

You're overthinking it - pull up a Google Maps overview and you'll see the elephant enclosure is directly in-between the guest pathway and the Screamin' Swing construction site.
