The Boat Chute is the oldest ride still operating in the park. The ride was constructed by park founder Carl Dixon in 1927, and is thought to be one of the oldest 'mill chute' type rides in the world. Riders board large medal boats featuring wooden benches and no restraints. The boat slowly traverses a long water trough in complete darkness- a continuous metal tunnel. After several minutes of darkness, the ride takes a turn and heads up a shallow lifthill before dropping down into the lake for a big splash. The boat actually traverses open water before moving back into a chute and heading back into the station. The ride can really hold its own compared to modern day chute attractions. Lake Winnie's Boat Chute is not only a fun ride, it's a piece of history!
