Kemah Boardwalk is located right along the edge of the Gulf of Mexico, north of Galveston, Texas. The amusement park is part of a larger complex owned by Landry's Restaurants. You can find a hotel, several restaurants, a marina, and other amusements aside from the rides section. The park itself opened in 1997 with 4 rides, but later expanded in 2004 with more ride purchases from Chance Rides, Inc. In late 2008, the Galveston area was hit by Hurricane Ike, which damaged much of the pier and destroyed several rides. Thankfully, the park was able to rebuild quickly and the area is once again open for business.
Like many classic seaside parks, Kemah Boardwalk uses the pay-per-ride option, although all-day wristbands are also available. The landscaping and upkeep of the park is very nice and the whole area feels well taken care of. Around the Boardwalk Bullet coaster, the area has a western theme. Outside of the main sitdown restaurants, there are several smaller food stands along with the usual shops and games. The Boardwalk holds lots of events throughout the year including numerous concerts. The rides themselves are mostly stock models like you'd find at fairgrounds, although the drop tower is exceptional as is Boardwalk Bullet, an incredibly intense ride.
Kemah Boardwalk is a fun place to spend a whole afternoon or only a few hours. For a relatively small park, there's plenty to do and see!
