Worlds of Fun

Worlds of Fun opened in 1973 when an entrepreneur by the name of Lamar Hunt wanted to take advantage of the sudden boom of activity in Kansas City. After Cedar Fair bought the park in 1995, there were many changes throughout the park. They removed a lot of the old attractions that had become famous at Worlds of Fun, and started to add newer, more modern attractions. This climaxed in 1998 when they added Mamba, a 205ft Morgan Hyper Coaster. Since then Worlds of Fun has continued to expand, opening Patriot (the park's inverted coaster) in 2006 and Prowler (the park's second wooden coaster) in 2009. The line-up of coasters has put Worlds of Fun at the top of the list for many enthusiasts, and is well worth a visit. The park has a general theme following Jules Verne's "Around The World In Eighty Days", with areas of the park themed around five major areas - Scandinavia, Africa, Europa, the Orient, and Americana. The theming isn't the most expansive you'll see, but coupled with the clean and comfortable atmosphere the themes provide enough of a distraction. There is also a water park next door. Oceans of Fun is also a Cedar Fair park and is now twinned with Worlds of Fun. |
