Indiana Beach is located on a tiny peninsula on the edge of Lake Shafer and is home to a decent sized theme park… and a water park! Indiana Beach has the feel of an old fashioned Victorian pier, with long wooden midways and rides packed into every little nook and cranny. The park has a great feel and atmosphere about it, and the employees are very friendly and willing to help. Indiana Beach began its life in the 1920's as a swimming resort developed by the Spackman family. As the swimming facilities became more popular, exciting new developments were added, such as toboggan slides, a ball room and regular fun fair attractions. Before 1950, the park was known as "Ideal Beach" but the name was changed to give something back to the state of Indiana. Over the years the park was developed more and it wasn't until 1971, when the first roller coaster appeared, did it really start to change. Wacky promotional activities and the introduction of the ‘IB Crow’ mascot soon transformed Indiana Beach into the popular resort it is today. There is plenty to do for all the family at Indiana Beach. There are some great, intense and fun coasters to ride, including Cornball Express with its crazy airtime. Then there are the younger guests to cater for. Indiana Beach does this well with plenty of tamer rides and attractions. Indiana Beach also has a small water park that can be a nice relief on a hot day. Located on the edge of Lake Shafer, Indiana Beach has plenty of attractions that utilise the water’s proximity to add something extra to the ride. There is also a stunt-show type event that takes place into the lake. Indiana Beach is also a lodging resort, with a campsite, hotel and cottage complex. More information of this can be found on Indiana Beach’s official website. |

A short drive from Monticello will get you to Indiana Beach, where the parking is free and the cost to enter the park is minimal. To ride the rides you must pay an extra fee, however even this is not extortionate for what the park has to offer. The food at the park is also great, especially the corndogs.
