Storm Force 10 is themed around a RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) offshore rescue. Riders enter an elaborately themed queue and station based around a lighthouse. After boarding their individual boats, themed superbly as RNLI lifeboats, riders embark on an exciting rescue. The ride features a backwards drop and a massive drop as the finale that is sure to get riders drenched. You will get wet!
As some random trivial, Storm Force 10's water supply is pumped to the top of the first water drop by a spiral screw device known as an "Archimedes' Screw". Invented in the third century B.C. by Archimedes of Syracuse, the bottom part of the screw is placed in the water and as it rotates the water is pushed up to the top of the screw. This is a more cost effective than using electrical pumps, which would otherwise have to be used. Good views of this device can be had from the viewing platform to the right of the ride’s entrance. This doesn’t add to the ride experience, it’s simply a nice little fact about the ride.
Drayton Manor also donates one penny from every on-ride photo purchased, to the RNLI, and so far have raised over £66,000 for the RNLI cause.
