Alton Towers, Staffordshire, England, UK

Nemesis | Oblivion | Air | Rita | Spinball | Corkscrew | Runaway Mine Train
The Flume | The Rapids | Hex | Enterprise | Submission | Ug Swinger | Duel

Ripsaw | Blade | Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

The Rapids is another of Alton Tower's 'Golden Oldies.' They were installed around 1986 and, at that time, were one of the park's main attractions. In 1992, the expansion of Alton Towers caused The Rapids (known then as 'The Grand Canyon Rapids') to undergo a facelift and to be 'revived' to today's audience's standards. So, the Rapids became 'Congo River Rapids' and came with a whole new theme and renovated surroundings. Congo River Rapids provides an excellent, fun-filled ride, able to keep riders screaming as they get drenched.
With many twists and turns along its course, and obstacles, such as walls, to bash into and very rough waters, the Congo River Rapids provides an entertaining family ride that still manages to keep long queue lines - no matter what the weather.

Name: Congo River Rapids
Type: River Rapids
Manufacturer: Intamin
Opened: Operating Since 1986
Length: 725m

A great ride that really helps the park to get the smile going. Went on recently with friends of a certain age and we
all left the ride laughing and talking giddily for the next hour.

More family friendly fun. It does bash you around a little bit too much though.

The driest rapids ever, although lately they've been having both sides of the waterfall on which is a killer!

I enjoy rapid rides, but wish it was a bit more rough. They had taken the fountain away at the end aswell that gave you
a final shower, and the boats have now changed from what they were originally.

People say these aren't very good rapids, bu I really like them! Once again, like with the flume, its great to go on
with a load of your friends. Bumpy, wet rapids ride. Really lovely in the middle of a summers day.

Its a dry rapids ride for everyone but me it seems. Always seems to give me a soaking and everyone else gets off dry.

I thought this ride was OK. The length of the ride is great and you can just sail through a large queue line. The only
trouble with this ride is you dont get very wet. I only had spalshes on me from the water falls and that was about it.

I wasa quite dissapointed really. I went on a hot day wanting to get wet and i didnt at all! i dont think any one did in
our float thing. No thrills No drops just sheer disappointment! If you are wanting to go on a good rapid ride like this
definatly go to the ones in FLORIDA either UNNIVERSAL ISLANDS OF ADVENTURE or DISNEY ANIMAL KINGDOM! There the best i've
been on!

I havent got much to compare this to really, but i was dissapointed because although its got a nice scenic path to
follow, i was the only one in the boat to get drenched, i think everyone should get wet for it to be a good rapid ride,
i dunno, maybe i expect too much or i'm just bitter because of the soaking i got!

Best Rapids in the UK, although the one at Drayton Manor aint bad. But I reckon this tops it, the scenary is really nice
and u get very wet depending on where u sit.

What is it with Alton Towers and water rides? The flume unplugges was bad enough, but this? Could it be evn worse than
'Ribena Rumba Rapids?' most definatley! This is supposed to be a very social ride, where you can really have a laugh
with your mates. Most people looked tediously bored and sleepy. The fact that it draws over 2 hours off queline makes it
even more rubbish! Say no more but, Alton what the hell have you done?!

Good theming, like all good rapids should have, but a very average ride. It seems that Tussauds aren't very good at
making you get wet on their rapids rides. Only go on it if the queue is very short or you are taking your young
sister/brother on it.

Long rapids, but it seems inevitable that rapids rides are inherently left unthemed for the most part. This ride has
slightly more themeing than most, but it would be nice to see some more of the same. Every ride is different so it's
hard to talk specifics, but I've known people to get very wet sometimes, whilst others stay bone dry.

Some people say these are dry rapids.. I personally have had a 5ft wave pour over my head and soak me from head to toe.
Always fun to go on in the summer with a group of friends. Remember to pose for that photo!

For some reason I really like these rapids. Good pace, good length, and all in all a fun ride! But the queues can be a
bit ridiculous, so dont queue for over 30 minutes, thats my tip.

a good laugh if you with alot of people and you can keep getting up and swappin seat but the actually bits that are ment
to get you wet dont there need to b more water sprayed at you a good ride tho but only if u have spare time as sumtimes
the queue can b outrageous

Its a good time filler, but if you want a ride that gets you wet, best go on ribsaw.
