Nemesis is Alton Towers' iconic attraction and is one of the UK's top rollercoasters. Nemesis has something
about it that can't actually be explained or described in words, but can only be understood by riding it. This feeling or experience that Nemesis gives, is probably best known as as the 'X-Factor.'

Nemesis pushes the boundaries for any theme park rollercoaster as it reaches every limit possible for any one human to endure. With it's cramped turns and tight inversions, Nemesis exaggerates the feeling of fear while giving an exciting and heart stopping experience. Nemesis is one of the rides that brought the term 'White Knuckle' into the industry when it took the world by storm in March 1994. It brought a whole new depth to the industry and its thrilling layout combined with its excellent theming inspired design companies to push the boundaries of future coasters. The effects of Nemesis's design can still be seen today, in rides like Black Mamba and Hydra: The Revenge, both of which utilise their terrain and surroundings to create an unparalleled experience.

When they were building Nemesis, a huge tent was erected over the site and the story began! During routine excavation works, workers uncovered a dormant alien creature which rose up and vented it's fury! Using loads of steel, the workers bolted down the beast in order to tame it. Your ride is based around the escape of the monster.

Nemesis was Europe's first inverted coaster and took 440 tonnes of steel and 7,542 bolts to construct. The ride and theming was designed by Tussaud's Imagineer John Wardley and some say it's his best work to date. The rust effects on the track were actually added by Tussaud Studios to give the ride a more scary feel.

Nemesis: A legend, A masterpiece.

Amazing. So smooth and comfortable, yet thrilling. One of those coasters that make you scream from pure enjoyment,
there's only one word to describe Nemesis: "WOOOOOHOOOOO!!!!"

The irn bru better than nemesis made me laugh a bit :) Oh and pretty much all the other coasters you mentioned being
better than nemesis, especially spinball. LOL. You think you 'proved' your point in that it's overrated by naming lots
of coasters? Doesn't work like that. I agree it's not the best invert in the world, I've been on Montu, but it's
certainly the best coaster in the UK and probably in the Top 5 in Europe. Better than I remember it every time I go,
Alton wouldn't be the same without it. 'Nuff said :)

I think its a good ride...but its over-hyped. It can compete for the best coaster in britain...but europe, hell no! Its
just not forceful enough i think. I have no idea how people think its the best inverted in the world....its just not

@tommylawrence Yeh, lol!! Now I kinda see ciallkennet's point as it looks scarier. Thorpe park made SAW get a really
scary effect that way too with all the old metal and rust and stuff.

@ciallkennet REVERSE EPIC FAIL because when nemesis was opened in 1994 it wasn't half as dirty as it is now!! Maybe the
towers thought the look was cooler later on.

The ride was really forceful, I enjoyed every minute of it. The loop is very forceful. The queue was about 1 hour so it
wasnt that bad. It was very fun. I will be going on again.

right... now nemesis was really good, and the ride overall was fun, but they seriously need to clear her up a bit! The
tracks are grimy and rusty, and the bone station is nearly brown now, so they could bring out the silver paint on a
winter break. I was pretty sure it was Tom Baker reading the story... was it?

I didnt enjoy nemesis inferno(thorpe park) and wasnt expecting to enjoy nemesis either but what a fantastic ride!, it
has none stop thrills from start to finish and definately owns the proclaimed 'X-Factor'

Thanks, Alexdude! I also noticed that Pagey has no posts on the forums. I bet he just signed up so he can troll the
comments to offend UK members.

the only reason why people think USA rides are better than UK rides is because they cant be the same. The UK have very
strict planning laws, where as the USA dosent. The UK have more twisted, shorter , steaper roller coasters and more
themed where as America has long sweaping drops and longer rides

One of my favourite coasters and definitely my favourite at Alton. It's a brilliant ride.

the funny thing is, UK or USA does not make the rides, most of them are built by Switzerland. B&M and Intamin are both
from that country, the location of the rides is meaningless in terms of what country builds best rides, as it is clearly
Switzerland.
