CoasterForce Airtime Awards Return for 2010!

After a year off, the Airtime Awards are back for 2010!

 Click over to the Airtime Awards section of the CF Forums to nominate your favorite rides, roller coasters, and parks for each of the world's three major amusement park regions.  Those attractions and parks that receive the most nominations will continue to the voting round.

Nominations will end February 15th, shortly followed by finalist voting.

Man Up! And ride Thirteen first!

Alton Towers are offering the chance win one of the first public rides on Thirteen - but only if you're tough enough.

Applicants must take part in a series of "Boot Camp" tests to prove they're hard enough to face the first ride. Challenges include physical tests, psychological testing and an endurance test - one hour of riding air!

Bungle in the Jungle - Legoland loses a ride.

After two seasons of a silly additional cover and poor reliability, Legoland have now officially removed the Jungle Coaster at Legoland Windsor.

Noise complaints mean that in 2008, Legoland had to add a plexi-glass cover to their Mack Mouse Coaster. The added weight and complexity added not only downtime, but a fairly horrid ride experience.

While it's sad to see the coaster go, it's not sad to see the loss of the multi-hour queues and massive amounts of disappointment this addition caused.

Legoland have announced a whole new Pirate themed area for the 2010 season.

Life on the Edge: Help Save it!

The Edge, the new for 2009 disk-o ride at Paultons Park, may have to be dismantled. You can help save it!

If you've ever visited the south-coast park and like to see independant parks thrive, please support this campaign.

It's very important to the local tourist trade and economy, not forgetting the continued development of the park.

Merlin Weaves its magic in Florida

It appears that Merlin Entertainment Group have purchased the (pretty much) defunct Cypress Gardens Amusement Park in Florida.

Cypress Gardens is Florida's oldest Amusement Park, but it ran into trouble around two years ago. In September 2009, after many attempts at changes in management and park.ride structuring, the park officially closed. It was said at the time that Merlin Entertainment Group were indeed considering to purchase the park.

It came to light in a document on the Polk Country website that the park was purchased by Merlin Entertainment Group Florida LLC on the 12th January 2010.

With Merlin at the helm, the chances are this could become another Legoland franchise park, especially after the recent news of Merlin looking at having Lego themed water parks too (Cypress Gardens also has a water park).

Pleasure Beach at a loss.

During the tax year 2008/2009 (April 2008 to April 2009) Pleasure Beach Resort Blackpool have posted a loss of £3.9 million.

While this may initially seem like sour news, it also includes over repayment on bank loans to reduce interest.

The 2009 season at Blackpool then saw further cutbacks at  the resort, mainly the loss of the shows Blackpool are famed for. This has given the park a saving of £3.5 million pounds. Visitor numbers also seem to have increased over the last 12 months, so it is likely that the 2009/2010 figures will show a much healthier bank balance.

No news yet on whether this will affect the proposed new ride planned to be installed for the 2011 season.

World's first "Psychoaster" at Alton Towers

Alton Towers have revealed the name and some details about their latest ride. Until now, the ride has been known only as "Secret Weapon 6". The secret weapon moniker is reserved for only special projects which Alton Towers believes will take the world by storm.
