Alton Towers, Staffordshire, England, UK

Nemesis | Oblivion | Air | Rita | Spinball | Corkscrew | Runaway Mine Train
The Flume | The Rapids | Hex | Enterprise | Submission | Ug Swinger | Duel

Ripsaw | Blade | Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Hex is one of those rides that relies on its theming and pre-show for success. Hex gives guests the opportunity to learn about the fantasy story behind a 'legend' of Alton Towers. From the second you enter the first walkthrough part of this grand attraction, Hex pulls you right into the story of the 'legend' as you listen to how it came about. You then wander along the prepared path, through the huge castle that the ride is housed in, while actually seeing and experiencing some of the events that were included in the story. In this manner, Hex actually makes you feel like part of the story as you walk through the maze of events and get a hands-on experience with the story of the Towers.
The final scene of this ride takes you on a super-sensory journey, as you swing back and forth in a huge rotating hall.
Hex is located at the center of the park and could be considered the park's main attraction, due to the fact that Hex was the soul concentration of Alton Towers.
It's amazing how all of this excitement and effort was applied when the story is all about a tree!!
How true is the legend? Does the chained oak exist? Click here to find out more.

I loved this. Best dark ride in the U.K by miles. Admittedly, it relies on a gorgeous location, but it uses it
perfectly. Easily the most atmospheric ride at Alton.P.S Lily-Mei is a slag.

What an amazing idea! This would be exactly the same as the one in Blackpool if it wasn't for the buildup story and
music. These people are geniuses! (And, coaster crazy? Please, just go.)

Everyone who says this ride is a waste of time, and says that it's crap obviously doesn't tune in to the whole
experience.

An okay break in the day, designed to distarct and disorientate rather than thrill. One note of warning, choose who you
ride with as groups that are unwilling to stop and watch, take phonecalls, or talk throughout the video sections do
really disappate the atmosphere and the thrill.

Hmm; I suppose this ride was a bit of a waste of time. It was okay, the only good enough bit was the end. I've been on
the Drayton Manor one; and I got told is was better, but I failed to notice a difference.

Diabolical is how to explain Hex. Long queues, boring video section, no atmosphere at the finale. The theming is great,
got nothing against that but there isn't really an unthemed ride at the park. The sad fact is that everyone goes on it.

I thought it was quite good. I didn't really know what it actually did, and the storyline itself was quite odd, but
nevertheless enjoyable. The actual illusion room felt kinda unnecessary, as it didn't reveal much at all I don't think.
But overall, it was a fun ride.

Best time this is when it's raining outside and get shelter in or go at 12pm-ish when people are getting lunch and the
queues aren't that big.

A pretty sweet ride but definitely not worth a long queue.

I hate Hex, The Haunting is so much better and is more funny. I hate the story line and there is no action.

So very very poor, a long, boring story leading to a three minute 'illusion' ride. I hate Hex.

The UK's superior dark ride, it just goes to show that Tussauds can do wonders and can make rides that can compete with
Disney standards...

Meh! Drayton Manor has a much better Vekoma Madhouse, And this one has a true storyline, But you see more of the house
on DMP's Madhouse.

I loved the themeing and story as you walk through. It does feel like the room is moving at the end though. Reminded me
of similar ride in Blackpool.

The best dark ride in the country by a long, long distance and the greatest Madhouse I've ridden.

So sickly and dis-orientating is the finale that I should be condeming it...but I can't knowing that the pre-shows, the
themeing and looks on other riders faces are fantastic and hilarious.

A really good ride but[I love using buts now!]it has a long Q line as well as Charile and the choco factory! Clapping
started by me at the end! In the towers building as well! Ride it if you have a lot of time!

What a waste of time! the rides story whilst you are queuing builds you up to think you are about to experience a
thrill, and then you are put on a bench facing a tree! i wasnt happy at all with this ride.

A good well themed walk through dark ride with the "legend of the towers" but i disliked the ride at the end. It made me
feel so dispoiantated and made me feel very sick in the end!

I think The Haunting at Drayton Manor is better but neither of them are brilliant they're both just OK.

Now its this kind of ride I don't like (I hate anything ghostly and dark!) But this was amazing, I was totally conned at
the end, it took me a while to figure out that it was the room that was moving and not me!!

A very scary ride (because it's dark) and very weird. At the beginning, your legs start sliding forward, but it doesn't
even feel like its moving!
