Corkscrew is one of Alton Towers's 'Golden Oldies.' It has been in the park for over 20 years and has remained in good condition, despite going through a couple of themes and many new paint jobs. Even though Corkscrew looks like it's about to give up the ghost, it's still standing strong and running perfectly fine every day. The current paint job and track style make it fit in perfectly with it's surroundings and themeing - it looks like one big skeletal spine that runs around in a nice, tight space. Corkscrew is a rather rough ride, but it still gives a great, classic ride.
i agree a painful ride but still great. although the corkscrews were the oonly smooth part

Something quite weird happened with this ride for me. On my first visit, on Saturday 8th July 2006, it was as smooth as a baby's bottom. On my second visit to Alton, on Saturday 14th April 2007, it was rougher then any other ride ever. On my third visit, on Thursday 19th July of the same year, it was back to being smooth again. Why did this happen?!

I went on this ride yesterday; it was our first to get us started. The beginning is quite good; bit rough, but is rather dissapointing towards the end as it goes quite slow.

Although rougher than the one at flamingoland, it has alot better themeing, and also has a place in my heart as my first upside down coaster!

Personally, I like Vekoma Corkscrews. My first coaster with inversions was the Corkscrew at Flamingo Land, which I found to be a fairly decent, reasonably smooth family ride. Alton's Corkscrew is let down by its roughness, however. On a good day, it's certainly ridable, even if it does joggle you about in the process. On a bad day, it's somewhat uncomfortable, although I've yet to find it painful. However, this is definitely a ride in need of an overhaul.

if you go at the front you continually gain speed boosts as the back of the train catches the hills, almost a continual rita launch!

allow me to say this....
Coasters are not let down by Roughness..
its about how good it is....
so people i ask of you to rate the ride... and don't let Headbashing let down the Corkscrew...
it was the First Corkscrew in Europe by the way...

My last go wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be. The again, I was only in the 3rd row, and I kept my head forward most of the time. The trains however, are horrible - the actual backrest is so narrow, that you can't actually sit back properly. My overall opinion of the ride has hardly changed though - Rough, quite boring and uncomfortable.

hmm gotta agree,i do remember this being quite rough but granted, it is an old coaster! but it is a dull layout and not very interesting. worth going on once to say you've been on all the coasters at the park but, wouldnt bother going back on it.

One of the worst coasters I've been on. Rough, sometimes painful and a pretty dull layout.

I know this is very painful, but it has been around a lot longer than us! I think that it is a fun ride and although it's not the scariest, it's good for a laugh!

A mediocre ride. It wasn't as painful has I had thought it would be. It is nothing memorable and just a little classic that stands in the shadow of Rita. Worth one ride if the queues are in the 5/10 minute margin.

I take it back about this ride, it isn't terrible but it is still a challenge to survive the roughness. It does deliver a rather fun ride if you can cope with its violence. 6/10 now.

Ugh, I hate this. I bashed my head endless times and it was boring. The drop is ok I suppose, but from then on the roughness is unbearable. If you're going to the park, don't bother going on this, it will just waste time. 3/10.

Pretty dull, the first drop is the only good bit. I don't find it all that rough but its sluggish and boring. 4/10
