Closed Park Guides

On June 19th, 2010 a man was thrown from the ex-world record holder ride Monte Makaya. The local government stepped in and deemed the park unsafe and the park owners liable for manslaughter. The park closed immediately and there is little chance of it ever reopening.

In January 2007, American Adventure announced that it would not be re-opening. The park has been struggling for three or four years to redefine itself and to bring guests back. It has all been in vain though, and the park is no longer sustainable.

New Metroland (the new was added after a refurb in 1996) managed 20 years as Europe's largest indoor amusement park. It was a fantastic place to let the kids loose while you got on with your shopping at the Metrocentre.

Obviously the world needed another cinema though (even though the Metrocentre already had one) and New Metroland closed its doors forever on 20th April 2008.

2006 was sadly the last season for this park, but some would say that it was more a case of putting it out of its misery.

In February 2010, Six Flags issued this statement:

"Six Flags announced today that it has decided to reject its lease with the Kentucky State Fair Board relating to the Kentucky Kingdom park. In recent weeks, Six Flags had proposed a new lease arrangement to the fair board that would have enhanced the viability and future of the park. Unfortunately, those proposals were not accepted and the park will cease operations and the company will move expeditiously to re-locate employees and several of the more than 40 rides and attractions to one of its 13 other markets."

After over 90 years as an amusement park, Southport Pleasureland closed its gate one final time in September 2006.Soon afterwards; rides were sold to other UK parks. The signature ride - Traumatizer was dismantled, and is to be Blackpool Pleasure Beaches big new attraction for the 2007 season. Space Shot has gone to Loudon Castle, and Chaos and some smaller rides to Lightwater Valley.
