Strait wizardy thingy... comes in elementary
Obviously we shall be starting with a station and lift. Leave the starting vertex exactly as it is on the bird’s eye view, but move it up 5 metres or so vertically. This is to make sure that we have no track in contact with the ground, but we will undoubtedly lower the entire track further into the project.
We are aiming to make an airtime filled, smooth, heart lined CCI with PTC 4 seater trains with 5 cars per train. There is a simple formula for working out how long the station needs to be and this is (cars per train) x (rows per car) + seven, in our case this is 17 metres, so go into Elementary, click the wizard for straits.
The length is 17, and the slope is -2 degrees, save this element (I personally make a separate folder for each project, I recommend you do this too) wherever you want, but preferably in a folder as it will be easier to find later and name it “station”, now place this in the editor.
For the next piece of track we are going to construct, you need the HSAK formula, which can be found here.
Now load up the HSAK formula (Advanced>Formula Input>Open), the version I gave you has numbers put in already, but it was the only version I could find, and I think it’s the most recent as well, so reset all the numbers to 0 (down to “increaseradsmooth”) and save the formula under the same name.
So now we have a station and the first brake. We want the lift at 25 degrees, and as we have a -2 degree slope already, we enter these stats in HSAK formula “Force segments to 8, radius = 10, cangle = 27”. Save this element as “Lift_Entry” and load it into purgatorium.
Enter the following settings: “Z axis by 90d, X axis by -2d*” and click the purgatorium! Button in the bottom left corner, when you save it make sure you write .nlelem or the element won’t save. Insert this element into your track, and open the strait wizard ready for the next part of the lift.
*Where d is used it means in the d box, not literally typing d.
The strait is pretty simple to make, I’m aiming for a approx 70 foot drop, and considering that already we’re about 5 foot up, and going over the top will take five foot as well, I’ve decided the strait should be approx 60 feet long, and this is where the guesswork sets in, I found 30 metres to be about right for some unknown reason. Enter the following information into the strait wizard “Length: 30, Slope: 25”, save the element as “Lift_Strait” and insert it into the editor.
Now we need to make the top of the lift, so open up HSAK and enter the following: “Force Segments to 8, Radius = 10, cangle = 55”, leave everything else as zero, click plot and save this element as “Lift_Exit”.
Load this element in purgatorium and enter the following settings “Z axis by -90d, X axis by 25d”, save it (remembering to type .nlelem) and insert it into the editor.
The station and lift is now complete. Remember to transform the segments to either station, brakes or lift. The track should now look like this:
