Park Information

The park's atmosphere is rather strange. It feels like a fairground in trouble in certain areas, run down and at the end of its life. You almost feel sorry for the place. Even though there are plenty of guests there, the park feels as though its struggling.

However, the park is very good value for money. It is free entry, so people who don't want to ride anything can still go and hang around. There is also a large free playground in the park. Food is priced fairly, and drinks are around £1 each. They also have the option of tokens, if you just want to ride one or two things. Wristbands are (at time of writing, July 2006) £10 for adults and £15 for children. This again is a good idea because most of the time the children will be the ones who are riding everything, and the parents won't be, as its more of a childrens park.

The staff also make an effort (their main coaster was running 3 trains all day, even with no queues) and, even when the park is busy, waiting times are low.

The park opened in 1913.

May i just say i live just round the corner from this park, and i must admit, the amount ov deaths that this place has
encounted is mad. A little girl died on the nautic jets whist everybody gets stabbed there. The ova day some man just
came up and started on me. Call it a family park for young children, yea right

Man this place ain't changed a bit. There weren't any height restrictions for the galleon when I last went when I was
about 7. My sisters dragged me on it, there were no restraints and I nearly fell out. A few people have died on it.

Wicksteed park is one of the old-style British parks. Large green spaces with rides interspersed. Two effervescent
coaster types-the mini ladypird and the pinfari non-looper are the only two coasters. The nautic jets are worth a go,
but have a REALLY slow throughput. The shoot-the-chute is Britain's first, dating from 1913. With your wristband you get
1 FREE GO on the laser tag inside the green dome. Wicksteed, does however, possess a #1 ride-the pirate ship. The huge
double pirate ship (which has a topless female figure at each end) takes riders nearly 100 feet in the air, with the
boat facing vertically down. Unfortunatley, OTSRs are used on this ride. Good value, but is more of a family
attraction. POINT OF INTEREST: apart from the two coasters & go-karts, Charles Wicksteed ltd. manufactured all the
rides in the park.
