In 1960, Anton Schwarzkopf took over his father’s company. Moving from making alterations to fairground rides, to producing them; Anton set the company moving towards making roller coasters. In 1964 the company made their first coaster - The Wildcat!

In 1964, Werner Stengel joined Schwarzkopf and this was to prove to be the most fruitful combination of talents ever seen in the industry. Werner Stengel was an exemplary structural engineer and calculated all the forces for Schwarzkopf’s coasters.

In 1976 Schwarzkopf unveiled the “Great American Revolution” (or Revolution as it is now known). . Werner Stengel had finally cracked the age old problem of making a loop “comfortable” to ride. This was the world’s first steel coaster with a vertical loop and Anton Schwarzkopf would go on to make this his signature on his future coasters

The innovations just kept coming from Schwarzkopf, with the first ever “launched” coaster - King Kobra at Kings Dominion - opening in 1977.

Arguably, Schwarzkopf produced some of the most intense coasters of 1970’s and 1980’s. Their presence was known throughout the world (with no little thanks to distributors such as Intamin AG) and Schwarzkopf coasters have thrilled millions.

Schwarzkopf went bust twice, once in 1983, and again in 1986. The first time around put an end to development of what would have been the world’s first suspended coaster. The company continued making coaster parts for several years under partnership with steel firm, BHS. Anton finally retired from the industry in 1995 and Sadly, Anton Schwarzkopf died in 2001.

A reverse drop shuttle coaster which speeds through the station, which is inside the loop. THe coaster then goes upwards and is dropped through the loop backwards! Great fun!

Triple Loop Coaster

Triple Loop Coaster

Like the double loop coaster, only a little bit loopier! These rides certainly pack a punch with up to 4.5G's!

Schwarzkopf spawned many great names in the roller coaster industry. Werner Stengel went on to become the designer of many major thrill rides.

Herbert Gerstlauer founded Gerstlauer after leaving Schwarzkopf as a director.

Firms Zierer, Stein and Maurer Soehne benefited directly from engineers and workers who had “cut their teeth” at Schwarzkopf.
