Packed onto a tiny peninsular on Lake Shafer resides a theme park...and a water park. The feeling is very much of a carnival atmosphere, almost reminisant of Victorian Britain seaside resorts. All around is water. You'll see river boats, jet skis and regular punts just passing the time of day. All in all this creates a thoroughly relaxing day out...and that's before you hit the rides or small water park!
Indiana Beach began it's life in the 1920's as a swimming resort developed by the Spackman family. As the swimming facilities became more popular, exciting new developments were added, such as toboggan slides, a ball room and regular fun fair attractions. Before 1950, the park was known as "Ideal Beach" but the name was changed to give something back to the state of Indiana. This is Indiana's showcase attraction, after all. Over the years, the park was developed more and it wasn't until 1971 when the first roller coaster appeared did it start to change. Wacky promotional activities and the introduction of the IB Crow mascot soon transformed Indiana Beach into the popular resort it is today.
Nowadays the park is always busy, with a small entrance fee to enter the park and an extra charge to ride the attractions. The ride selection is ok, nothing amazing but enough to keep everybody entertained for several hours. Staff at the park are incredibly friendly, polite and helpful. The food is awesome - make sure you check out the corn dogs! Parking is free.
