The Flying Fish is Thorpe Park's oldest rollercoaster and has served the park since 1983, with a year's rest in 2006.
The ride has been a firm family favourite for many years and has had many guises. It was originally known as 'Space Station Zero' where it started it's humble life as a indoor coaster. In 1990, the coaster saw daylight and was renamed and re-themed 'the Flying Fish', with a fishy theme with many tree-grabbing moments. The entrance to the original (well, the second incarnation) Flying Fish was opposite where the Storm In A Teacup ride currently resides. It was one of Thorpe Park's most well landscaped coasters.
The construction of Stealth which began in 2005 meant the Flying Fish was put into storage. Now Stealth has been fully built, the Fish makes a welcome return the park and now sits between Depth Charge and Tidal Wave which makes much more sense, as a fish out of water is just plain wrong.
The ride itself is a figure-of-eight style coaster which travels around a (at the time of writing) an unlandscaped area, although there are ponds in there and once the landscaping is complete, it should add to the rides enjoyment. Staff occasionally hold up signs such as "scream" and "Mexican wave" to make the ride more fun. You usually get two circuits per ride.
